A look back at my paper cut art

This week I thought it would be nice to share a few of my new paper cut designs and take a look back at some of my favourites from the past.

This is my latest commissioned paper cut design, all finished. If you look carefully you’ll spot lots of little motifs which mean something special to the recipient.

I haven’t stuck it down on the backing paper yet as my customer would like a turquoise blue which I need to buy from a craft shop this week.

I loved doing this one because it is full of so many things I haven’t cut before – a seahorse, dragonflies, owls, shells and even a fairy!

I’ve also been working on a Valentine’s day paper cut template and here is the result. It’s taken a few drafts for me to be happy with the water and the text, but I’m so pleased with how this has turned out!

Valentine's day paper cut template

I wanted to make a heart shaped template but didn’t want it to be overtly Valentine’s related. I hope the phrase ‘you float my boat’ means people will find it relevant for other times of the year too!

I am going to rush to convert this into a template ready for anyone who would like to cut it for Valentine’s day, so keep an eye on my Etsy shop if you’d like to give it a go!

This next design is a favourite of mine from 2014. It is still in a drawer, but I’m going to dig it out soon to put on the wall in our new baby’s nursery. I designed it for a challenge run by a Facebook group I’m part of – the theme was ‘stack of animals‘.

Here’s another piece I did for a challenge. This time the theme was ‘transport‘. There is a simplified version of this available as a template in my Etsy shop.

intricate paper cut design

At the time it was the most intricate design I’d done.

This next design was a commission from a cat lover! It was fun to do something a bit different – I love how the bold silhouettes work well with the fine lines of the wool and fish bones.

Finally, this is an elephant design which was also done as a commission. It’s filled with intricate patterns and mandalas and took a very long time to cut!

  1. Clare, your paper-cut work is absolutely mind-blowing! Fantastic detail in such small spaces/places. Wow! And your photography is GREAT! Love the angles and such. 🙂

Hope you’ve had a lovely weekend!
    xx

  2. They are all so great I love the float my boat one. Just the right amount of Valentineness, without being too sugary. Been pondering what my special motifs would be.

  3. You have such an amazing style and flair with your all you work, but especially with your paper cutting. Don’t over burden yourself before the baby is due – you’ll be needing all that energy soon enough.

  4. Wow your cuts are so intricate, I don’t think I’d have the patience. Love the ‘float your boat’ definately great for lots of different occasions…
