Small is beautiful, right? Of course! Just one of the many reasons I love drawing miniatures. Never mind the fact they’re relatively quick, portable enough to draw anywhere and indulge my love of detail.
Well, I hadn’t drawn a miniature portrait in at least 6 months (since my ‘52 Faces‘ project…) when I was commissioned to create a little set of five for a work colleague to give as a gift to his Mum on her birthday.
The portraits are of his Mum and Dad in their heyday and his sisters and him below. I drew from old black and white photos and digital images of his family, each one taking between 1 and 2 hours to complete.
I’ve used a pen for scale here – each portrait was drawn in an oval which is about the width of a two pence piece.
This was a fun commission to fit around looking after our little Munchkin as I was able to draw during nap time! If you are interested in commissioning a miniature portrait (or 5!) please do get in touch, I’d be very happy to discuss your vision with you.
I’m sharing this post on the following blogs: Handmade Harbour, Paint Party Friday and Blue Chair Diary Illustrations!
